Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United have shown an interest in signing FC Koln winger Christian Clemens, according to Kick Off (via the Yorkshire Evening Post).
The German has had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, and has caught the eye of several clubs around Europe, including Leeds United.
The Whites are looking to rebuild their squad this season following a disappointing Sky Bet Championship campaign in the 2017/18 season, and it is a crucial summer transfer window for the Yorkshire club.
Despite Clemens’ impressive season for FC Koln, the German side finished rock bottom of the top flight, and have consequently been relegated to the second division. This has left the winger available to leave the club, and reports suggest he has alerted Leeds United of his availability himself.
Clemens only played 14 times for his current side in the league last season, but the difference he makes when on the pitch is clear to see.
Stats taken from Kick Off show the impact that he had on FC Koln. When starting, his team had a 29 win percentage. It doesn’t sound particularly impressive, but when you compare that to their 5% win percentage without Clemens, it is clear to see why there is plenty of interest in him.
Clemens has spent the whole of his career in his native Germany, representing teams such as Schalke and Mainz, as well as current club Koln on two separate occassions.
Although he has never broken into the senior Germany national team, he has represented them at every possible youth level, ranging from under 16 to under 21.
