Bristol City are preparing a deal for Southampton left-back Sam McQueen, as per a report by the Bristol Post.

The Robins see the Premier League defender as a replacement for Joe Bryan, who is set to join Burnley for a fee of around £6 million.

Sam McQueen has only played 7 games for Southampton in all competitions this season and is keen on a move away  for more first-team opportunities. The 23-year-old can also play as a left winger as well as left-back.

Bristol City are eager to bolster their squad this summer through various signings. Their manager, Lee Johnson, wants them to be competing in the top half again in the next campaign and wants them to be in and around the Play-Offs.

McQueen is likely to be the first player through the door at Ashton Gate. He started his career at Southampton and was loaned out to Southend United in 2016, where he gained his first taste of senior football.

He broke into the Southampton first-team in the 2016/17 season and played 20 games for the Saints in all competitions. Many were tipping him for a big future at St Mary’s but he has found his chances hard to come by this season.

A move to Bristol City is a good opportunity for McQueen to get regular first-team action and prove people wrong. This is a move that both parties will want to get done.
