Rangers eyeing move for Sheffield Wednesday striker

Rangers are interested in a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes, according to the Yorkshire Post.

The new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is looking to bolster his attack and wants to sign Rhodes, who could leave Championship side Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Gerrard has been busy adding to his squad as he looks to see them competing for the Scottish Premier League title next season. He has already signed Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor from Burnley and Hull City respectively and now Rhodes to join his Rangers revolution.

The 28-year-old striker is a proven goal scorer at Championship level but his career has stalled over the past couple of seasons. Rangers could offer him an escape route from Sheffield Wednesday over the coming months.

Rhodes had spells at Barnsley and Ipswich Town as a youngster before he was snapped up by Huddersfield Town in 2009. He spent four seasons with the Terriers and scored 87 goals in 148 games before he signed for Blackburn Rovers for £8 million.

Rhodes spent three and a half years at Ewood Park and scored 85 goals in 169 games. He was then signed by Middlesbrough in February 2016 and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League. However, he chances were limited in the top flight and he was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls then signed him last summer but he has only scored 5 goals this season. A move to Scotland could be on the cards for Rhodes with Rangers keen on him.
