Nottingham Forest keeping close tabs on Oldham Athletic full-back

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Oldham Athletic full-back Rob Hunt, according to Nottingham Post.

The young defender has had a solid season for Oldham Athletic, having joined the club permanently for an undisclosed fee last summer following a successful loan spell.

He made 37 appearances for Latics last season, but he could not prevent the club from dropping into the bottom tier after 21 years in League One.

It is believed that Rob Hunt has a release clause £300,000 due to Oldham’s relegation to Sky Bet League Two and this has provoked serious interest in the 22-year-old.

Forest have been joined in the race to sign Rob Hunt by Wigan Athletic, who are preparing for the Championship, after lifting the League One title last season.

The versatile Hunt, can play right-back or left-back, he began his career at Brighton, but only managed a handful of first-team appearances for the Seagulls.

Nottingham Forest are believed to be targeting a right-back during the transfer window as boss Aitor Karanka looks to change his current squad, with many new arrivals on the cards.

It also looks likely that a few of Oldham’s players will be moving on in the summer with Daniel Gardner reportedly being targeted by two unnamed French sides as well as Jack Byrne being targeted by League One side Peterborough United, according to HITC Sport.

Rob Hunt has a bright future in the game and for £300,000 it could a excellent piece of business if Nottingham Forest and Aitor Karanka decide to move for the full-back.
