Stoke City leading Celtic in race for 57 cap international

Stoke City have been made odds on favourites to sign West Bromwich Albion and Republic of Ireland winger James McClean.

Bet Victor have given the recently relegated Potters odds of 4/5 to take McClean to the Bet365 Stadium. McClean was relegated with current side West Brom this season and is expected to leave the Hawthorns this summer.

Despite being clear favourites, Stoke face slight competition from Scottish Premier League Champions Celtic, with Brendan Rodgers’ side being given odds of 8/1 to sign the Republic of Ireland international.

McClean first moved to England back in 2011, when he joined Sunderland, who were at the time in the Premier League, for a fee of £350,000. He made the move across the sea, joining from his hometown team Derry City.

The Irishman appeared 59 times for Sunderland, scoring seven goals in the process before he joined Sky Bet Championship side Wigan Athletic in 2013.

He performed well for the Latics, scoring nine times in 73 games. His displays earned him his move back to the Premier League in 2015, when he joined the Baggies for a fee believed to be in the region of £1.5 million.

Since then, he has been a regular in the West Brom side, making just shy of 100 appearances for the Midlands club.

In total, James McClean has appeared 158 times in the top flight of England football.

His contract at West Brom expires at the end of 2019, but he struggled to make an impact on the team following Darren Moore’s appointment, so he is expected to move on and leave the club this summer.
