Sunderland chairman delivers target for club’s fans

Sunderland Chairman Stewart Donald has challenged the Black Cats’ fans to sell 20,000 or more season tickets for next season.

This would beat the total sold last season, and despite being relegated for the second successive season, Donald believes that it is possible.

So far, the North East club have sold 16,000 season cards, and Donald has extended the deadline to buy discounted season cards until 5pm on June 22 in a bid to bring more fans to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis next season.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Sunderland chairman said: “The reception I’ve received from the Sunderland fans has been absolutely incredible and we want to give something back to them in recognition of this, so we’re extending the early purchase price period for a couple of weeks. We are excited by the challenge of turning this football club around. We know we can’t do it on our own, but as one we can become unstoppable and take Sunderland back where to where it should be.”

“The last few years have been tough for fans – that’s an understatement – but together we can make the Stadium of Light a fortress once more, so I would urge supporters to join me next season.

Sunderland today appointed St Mirren boss Jack Ross as their new manager, which is likely to attract even more fans to buy season tickets. Ross won the Scottish Championship with his former club in the 2017/18 season, and earned himself the Scottish Manager of the Year award in the process.
