Chelsea legend odds-on favourite for Derby County job

Frank Lampard is the 1/7 favourite for the Derby County job on SkyBet.

The Rams are in the hunt for a new manager after Gary Rowett left them last week to take charge of Stoke City. Other names such as Darren Wassell, Dean Smith, Mick McCarthy and Martin O’Neill are in the frame but Frank Lampard is now leading the race.

Derby could be set to hand the 39-year-old a route into football management. We have seen Steven Gerrard and Joey Barton handed jobs over recent months by Rangers and Fleetwood Town respectively. Lampard could be the next to try his arm as a manager.

Lampard made 109 caps for England and went onto become a Premier League legend. He started his career at West Ham United and played over 100 games for the Hammers before he was snapped up by Chelsea in 2001 for £11 million.

He spent 13 seasons at Stamford Bridge and played 648 games for them, scoring 211 goals. He won the Premier League three times, FA Cup four times, the League Cup twice, the Europa League and the Champions League.

Lampard left Chelsea in 2014 and joined Manchester City. He spent a season at the Etihad before moving to the MLS to sign for New York City, where he ended his career.

It will be interesting if Derby County do appoint Frank Lampard as their new manager. It would be good to see young managers given a route into the game.
