Hammers set to swoop for Bristol City target

English Premier League club West Ham United could swoop to sign Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from under the noses of Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City according to the Mirror.

The 26-year-old Montivilliers born stopper is being hotly tipped to move to England after performing well in his homeland.

Sky Bet Championship club Bristol City are believed to be keen to sign the £2 million-rated keeper, however, it has now been reported that West United United are the favourites to land Mendy while Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation.

New Hammers boss Manuel Pelegrini could make signing a goalkeeper one of his top priorities this summer with loan keeper Joe Hart set to return to parent club Manchester City. The East Londoners are unlikely to consider extending the player’s loan deal after several high profile errors made by Hart.

Reims goalkeeper Mendy has helped the unfashionable French club to the Ligue 2 title this season. David Guion’s side conceded just 24 goals in 38 league fixtures this term as they romped to the title with Mendy starring between the sticks.

The keeper started his career with Cherbourg before joining Marseille in summer 2014 in a move which saw the player feature for the club’s second string side. Mendy has spent the last two years with Reims where his senior career has now finally kicked-off.
