Derby County said to have held talks with Chelsea legend

Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is thought to have held talks with Derby County over the managerial vacancy at Pride Park according to reports by the Mirror.

The 39-year-old East Londoner retired from playing just over 15 months ago and has been studying for his coaching badges.

Sky Bet Championship club Derby County are looking for a new manager after former boss Gary Rowett left them to join relegated English Premier League club Stoke City and it has been reported that Lampard has held initial discussions with the club over their managerial vacancy.

The Rams owner Mel Morris is said to be hoping to make a significant appointment in the next couple of weeks and the possible arrival of Lampard would certainly raise eyebrows.

The former midfielder has bags of experience at the top level of the game with Lampard having represented England on the international stage on no less than 106 occasions. Lampard won three league titles during his time with Chelsea while he also lifted both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League as well as winning four FA Cups and two League Cups.

Derby County are looking to appoint a manager who can finally take the club back up to the top flight after a decade away and the possibility of Lampard being named the next Rams boss is a fascinating thought.
