Experienced Bolton midfielder confirms he is to leave

Revealing on his personal Twitter account, Bolton Wanderers midfielder Jem Karacan has confirmed that he will leave the club this summer. He is out of contract at the Macron Stadium, and Phil Parkinson has not offered him an extension.

Karacan played a significant role on helping the Trotters win promotion back into the Sky Bet Championship thanks to his goal against Peterborough United, but failed to make any serious impact last season. The 29-year-old made only 18 appearances last season, with many more preferred to him in the central midfielder role. Bolton will free up space to boost their squad ahead of next season, where they’ll be hoping for an improved showing.

Karacan has spent the past 15 months with the club, and says he will ‘miss being amongst such a great set of lads’. The former Reading man also went on to thank the supporters, wishing them all the best for the upcoming campaign.

Parkinson made his move for Karacan after the playing was plying his trade with Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he only made a handful of appearances. Karacan actually started the season as a regular in Parkinson’s midfield. The signing of Karl Henry however certainly meant his game time decreased as the season progressed. His last appearance was the 3-0 away defeat at Derby County in April. Bolton would survive against immediate relegation thanks to a final day home win over mid-table Nottingham Forest. Karacan now focuses his attentions on a move elsewhere. He has EFL experience, but may entertain a move to the continent if possible, too.
