Marriott, Leeds, Aston Villa & others told League One star will cost £6.5m

Leeds, Aston Villa & others told League One star will cost £6.5m

The Sun reports that Sky Bet League One side Peterborough United will not sell star striker Jack Marriott for anything below £6.5million. Many clubs in the Premier League and Sky Bet Championship have been interested in the highly-rated forward.

Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace is believed to be a fan of the player. Being in the top flight clearly gives them an edge, although he may not necessarily get much game time. Aston Villa are hoping to join them by winning the play-off final, and could then sign Aston Villa afterwards. Marriott is also wanted by Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday.

The 23-year-old netted 33 goals in 56 appearances for Posh last season, but they missed out on a play-off position. Manager Steve Evans clearly won’t want to lose his prized asset, but if they receive the bid set by the club, he surely wouldn’t stand in his way, especially if those funds could be used to boost their own squad ahead of a promotion push.

Marriott made the move from Luton Town a year ago, in a deal believed to be around £500,000. A great first and so far only season at London Road means he is now set to test himself at a higher level. The question is, will any of those clubs be willing to pay out such a fee to a player now proven at that level. He may be worth the risk, but they will still be looking to do their sue diligence before committing to the deal.
