Aston Villa to open talks with defender next week

Aston Villa will open contract talks with Alan Hutton next week, according to BT Sport.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at Villa Park meaning he could leave the club on a free transfer. However, Villa will enter talks with him no matter what division they will be playing in next season.

Aston Villa face Fulham this weekend in the Championship Play-Off final at Wembley and are looking to book their place in the Premier League next season.

Alan Hutton’s long-term future has been under scrutiny recently but there will be some clarity next week after their final. The experienced right-back has been a key player for Villa this season and a useful player to have around the dressing room.

Steve Bruce gave Hutton another chance at Villa when he joined the club with it looking like his career at Villa Park was over. The Scottish full-back has played for Villa since 2011 but has since had loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Mallorca and Bolton Wanderers.

Hutton, who has made 50 caps for Scotland, started his career at his hometown club Rangers but moved to England in 2008 to join Tottenham Hotspur. He spent three years at Spurs before going on to have spells at Sunderland and now Aston Villa.

If Villa do decide to release Hutton after their Play-Off final, there is no doubt that he would be a target for many Championship clubs as he is very experienced at this level.
