Rowett chases signings of key Derby duo to join him at Stoke

According to The Mirror, new Stoke City boss Gary Rowett may try and sign Scott Carson and Curtis Davies from his former club Derby County. The 44-year-old has just been appointed the successor to Paul Lambert at the bet365 Stadium.

Rowett is very much hoping to hit the ground running in his new role. He has targeted two of his former players from Pride Park to boost a squad that he will inherit, which has obviously just experienced relegation from the Premier League.

Davies is perhaps his biggest desire as he proved to be a huge player for the Rams last season after joining from Hull City for a relatively cheaper £500,000. Rowett will focus plenty of attention of the Potters defence, especially with Kurt Zouma returning to Chelsea after his loan spell ended. Davies is obviously experienced at this level, but it remains to be seen if he wishes to leave Derby. Brighton & Hove Albion could also make a move for the ex-Luton Town youngster.

Any interest in former England international Carson however is mostly dependent on the future of current England international Jack Butland. He is first-choice at Stoke, but is highly likely to leave, especially if he goes into the summer as England’s number one for the World Cup in Russia. With Carson also experienced in the Championship, Rowett feels as though he would provide a calming influence. Carson has made over 130 appearances for Derby since signing in 2015 from Wigan Athletic. The 32-year-old has not necessarily expressed a desire to leave the club, but could be tempted by a new challenge.
