Sunderland are closing in on the appointment of St Mirren boss Jack Ross, according to the Shields Gazette.
The highly-rated manager looks set to swap the Scottish Premier League for the English third tier as Sunderland are ready to appoint their man.
The Black Cats have been in the hunt for a new manager after Chris Coleman was sacked following their relegation from the Championship last month. There have been various names linked with the vacant post such as Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder, Mick McCarthy and Paul Hurst, however it now appears that they have found their replacement.
Jack Ross has become a man in demand after guiding St Mirren to the Scottish Championship title this season. The Buddies will be playing in the Scottish top flight in the next campaign but are looking likely to have a new manager at the helm.
Ross previously managed Alloa Athletic a year prior to moving to St Mirren in 2016. As a player, he played as a defender for Cylde, Hartlepool United, Falkirk, St Mirren, Hamilton Academical and Dunfermline Athletic.
He is set to become the first manager of the new Stewart McDonald era at Sunderland. The Black Cats are looking for an immediate return to the Championship next season and are hoping that Jack Ross is the man to do this. An announcement of his appointment is expected to be imminent.
