Former Leeds United target set to leave Premier League club

Leeds United were linked with a move for Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback back in January, and it seems that they may be given another chance to sign the 28-year-old, as he is set to be sold by the North East Premier League side.

Colback has been on loan at Nottingham Forest since January, with the Reds reported to be interested in bringing him in permanently, and The Chronicle has reported that Colback will be available this summer as the Magpies look to offload some of their higher earning unwanted players.

Whilst Nottingham Forest would most likely be favourites to sign him after his loan spell at the East Midlands club, Leeds United could be tempted to look to sign a player they were once linked with as they look to strengthen up their midfield ahead of the new season.

Colback is surplus to requirements at St James’ Park, and reports suggest if he does not leave the club this season, he will spend the year training and playing with the club’s academy until his contract runs out at the end of June 2019.

The Newcastle born midfielder actually came up through the ranks at North East rivals Sunderland, signing his first professional deal with the Black Cats back in 2008. He struggled to break into the first team, and instead spent two seasons on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich Town.

He made his Premier League debut for Sunderland in 2010, but it lasted just 10 minutes after he was sent off for two bookable offences.

Jack Colback left Sunderland in 2014, joining Newcastle United on a free transfer.
