Nottingham Forest set to sign former England and Spurs defender

Sky Bet Championship side Nottingham Forest are holding talks with former England and Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson, according to reports from HITC Sport.

Dawson is currently on the books at fellow second tier side Hull City, but his contract expires at the end of this season, and the Tigers are willing to let him go as they look to lower their wage bill.

And it seems that Nottingham Forest are favourites to sign the 34-year-old defender, who played 83 times for the club between the years of 2001-05.

HITC report that Forest were close to securing a deal for Dawson back in January, but everything fell through, however they have remained on high alert due to the fact that his contract is expiring.

Michael Dawson graduated through the youth academy at Nottingham Forest, and made his debut for the club at the tender age of 18 all the way back in April 2002.

His impressive performances for the East Midlands club alerted Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, and Dawson was sold alongside team mate Andy Reid for a combined fee of £8 million.

Dawson went on to play over 200 games for the North London club, representing them in European competitions as well as in the Premier League. He was even given the chance to captain the side, before he was let go in 2014, when he joined Hull City for a fee believed to be in the region of £3.5 million.

Michael Dawson’s time at Spurs was so successful that he was awarded his first England cap in 2010, and went on to make four in total for the senior national team.
