Reading interest in Peterborough United winger confirmed

Sky Bet Championship club Reading have expressed an interest in signing Peterborough United’s transfer listed midfielder Marcus Maddison according to the Peterborough Telegraph.

The 24-year-old Durham born winger has recently been made available for transfer by The Posh after their failure to win promotion back to the second tier of English Football.

A number of Sky Bet Championship clubs are thought to be keen to sign the former Newcastle United academy star and Peterborough United’s director of football Barry Fry has confirmed that Reading are one of those clubs to have shown an initial interest in the player, although no transfer offer has yet been submitted.

New Reading manager Paul Clement is thought to have been given the green light to begin his summer recruitment mission as the Berkshire club look to improve on a hugely disappointing 2017/2018 campaign. It has been suggested that The Royals’ owners will sanction significant spending during the close season.

Posh winger Maddison would cost Reading more than £2 million with the player having enjoyed a successful season in which he bagged 12 goals in 53 appearances. Many of the midfielder’s goals for Peterborough United have been from range and the club will be less than happy to lose one of their most exciting players.

After failing to make the grade at Newcastle United, Maddison moved to Scottish club St Johnstone before dropping into non-league football with Gateshead. Peterborough United are believed to have paid £250,000 to sign Maddison from The Heed and the player has certainly justified that transfer fee.
