Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Finalists Aston Villa are leading the race to sign RC Strasbourg striker Stephane Bahoken, according to reports coming out of France.
RMC Sport is a popular media outlet in France, and they have reported that Steve Bruce’s side are in pole position to secure the signature of the Cameroon international when his contract expires at the end of June.
Despite being in pole position, they face a lot of competition from a number of sides around Europe. Espanyol, Levante and Angers are all reported to be interested, whilst recently relegated Barnsley have also shown an interest in the past, however their relegation to Sky Bet League One is likely to put them out of the race.
Bahoken began his career at fellow French side Nice after having graduated from the youth academy at the South Coast club. He played 16 times for the Ligue 1 side during three years at the club, showing his failure to properly break into the first team.
During his time at Nice, he was loaned out to Scottish side St Mirren, where he failed to score in five games.
In 2014, he joined Strasbourg, who at the time played in the second tier of French football. Bahoken helped them earn promotion as Ligue 2 champions in 2016/17, meaning they played top flight football for the 2017/18 campaign.
The 25-year-old striker has not been the most prolific this season, scoring just five goals in 17 league games, but he has shown his ability to score against the better teams, scoring a winner against PSG earlier this season.
