Top 50 Players of the EFL – 4th: James Maddison (Norwich City)

Norwich City midfielder James Maddison has been voted by you as the 4th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Maddison is the 4th best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

Maddison first signed for Norwich back in 2016 and after initially being loaned back to Coventry City, he was hoping to follow up on the promise that caused the Canaries to sign him as soon as possible. But even with Norwich’s relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, he ended up being loaned out again, this time to Aberdeen. But after making a few appearances towards the end of last season, he finally made a first team spot his own.

And he made the wait worth while because he quickly turned into Norwich’s best player. The midfielder was highly influential this season and while Norwich didn’t make the play-offs like they wanted, it wasn’t for lack of trying on Maddison’s part. In the 49 appearances he made this season, he scored 14 goals, making him one of the highest scorers in the league despite being a midfielder. He also contributed with eight assists on top of that. He had starring performances against the likes of Hull City, where he scored a hat trick, Reading and Brentford.

Maddison will hope to push Norwich into the play-offs next season.
