Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott has been voted by you as the 10th best player in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Marriott is the 10th best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.
I think we all agree that Peterborough’s transfer strategy is genius. Instead of overpaying for players that are already proven in their league, they below and sign the best in the divisions below. And then in a few years they end up selling them on for a massive profit. Great for the football and for the business. And Marriott is the latest in a long line of these sort of deals.
He was signed from Luton Town in the summer and quickly proved himself to be one of the best signings of the season. He was lethal in front of goal and just like the recent high of Peterborough a few years, it made the team’s attack fearsome. In 53 appearances for the club this season, he scored a stunning 32 goals. His tally of 27 in Sky Bet League One made him the highest scorer in the division, beating 2nd placed Brett Pitman by three goals. One highlight of the season came right at the beginning when he scored a hat trick against Bristol Rovers back in August.
Should Marriott stay at Peterborough, he will hope to push them into the League One play-offs.
