Ex-Peterborough United boss emerges as candidate for Bradford City job

Grant McCann has emerged as a 2/1 candidate for the Bradford City job on SkyBet.

The Bantams are in the hunt for a new manager after Simon Grayson left at the end of a disappointing League One campaign. Former Brentford, Rangers and Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton is still the favourite but is now shortly followed by McCann. Other candidates consist of Steve Cotterill, Uwe Rosler and Ian Cathro.

Grant McCann is a relatively new name in the running for the vacant post. The 38-year-old is available after being sacked by Peterborough United in February but could be handed a route back into management by Bradford.

As a player, McCann had stints at the likes of West Ham United, Cheltenham Town, Barnsley, Scunthorpe United, Peterborough United and Linfield as a midfielder. He also made 39 caps for Northern Ireland.

He retired from playing in 2015 and re-joined Peterborough United, where he had played over 150 games as a player, in a coaching capacity. He was then appointed manager of the Posh in May 2016. They finished 11th in League One in his first full season in charge.

McCann’s Peterborough United made a flying start to the 2017/18 season but fell away after Christmas meaning he was sacked in February after no wins in eight. Bradford City would be a good route back into the game for McCann and a chance to prove people wrong.
