Whyte, Leeds United target ‘on the verge’ of move to England

Leeds United target ‘on the verge’ of move to England

Leeds United’s interest in Northern Irish winger Gavin Whyte has been reported for a number of weeks now, but it seems he may be edging ever closer to moving across the sea and joining an English club.

The Crusaders winger had an amazing season for his side, helping them to their second successive Irish Premier League title.

Whyte scored 21 goals in the process, and has been billed as one of the hottest prospects in Northern Ireland.

He was awarded for his impressive displays this campaign at the Northern Ireland football awards evening. Whyte picked up both the Young Player of the Year and the Player of the Year awards, something last achieved by Leeds United ace Stuart Dallas, who has been described as Gavin Whyte’s idol.

His performances this season have seen him earn his first call-up to the senior Northern Ireland squad, and it was in fact his international manager who dropped the hint that he is on the verge of completing a move to England.

As quoted by Leeds Live, Michael O’Neil said: “We have watched Gavin Whyte for the last three years. This season he has been exceptional,” he said after confirming Whyte’s call-up. “He’s on the verge of a move to England and we hope this inclusion helps him.

“Also, should he get that opportunity to go into full-time football he’s equipped to hit the ground running. Gavin has the capability to make a real impact if given the chance.”

Gavin Whyte will be hoping to make his international debut in the coming weeks on the tour of Central America.
