Highly rated Charlton Athletic defender Ezri Konsa has received his first international call-up to the England Under-21 side for the upcoming Maurice Revello Toulon Tournament in France.

The 20-year-old Newham born centre-back has been hugely impressive for The Addicks this season and a number of English Premier League clubs are said to be monitoring the player’s progress.

Konsa is thought to be a transfer target for the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and Liverpool this summer and current club Athletic may face a battle to hold onto the player.

The defender’s international experience to date has come at Under-20 level with Konsa having won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with England last summer. The Football Association have now announced that Konsa will be a member of the Under-21 squad which will head to Toulon later this month.

England have been placed in Group A for the tournament along with China, Mexico and Qatar. The Young Lions have won the tournament back-to-back and will certainly be confident of reaching the latter stages of the competition.

Konsa has played an instrumental role for his club this season by making 47 appearances in all competitions. The player will hope to have a similar impact for Aidy Boothroyd’s young England side in France in the coming weeks.
