Birmingham City announce first-team duo will be leaving the club

Birmingham City are not renewing the contracts of Jason Lowe and Andrew Shinnie, as confirmed by their official website.

The midfield duo are both out of contract at St Andrews next month and will be leaving the club on free transfers. Birmingham boss Garry Monk is looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad and they are the first to be confirmed to be leaving.

Jason Lowe joined the Blues last summer on a free transfer, having previously been at Blackburn Rovers. He only signed a one-year deal but has not done enough to earn a new one. He played 11 times in all competitions for the St Andrews club.

Lowe, who is 26 years-old, started his career at Blackburn and played 196 games for them. He broke into their first-team in the 2011/12 season whilst they were in the Premier League. He is an experienced midfielder and will be a man in demand this summer.

Andrew Shinnie will be following Lowe out of the Birmingham exit door. The Scottish midfielder joined the Blues in 2013 from Inverness Caledonian Thistle and as played 73 times for them, as well as having loan spells away at Rotherham United, Hibernian and this season at Luton Town.

Shinnie is another who is a decent option for Football League clubs now as a free transfer signing. He has been capped by Scotland once and has also had spells in the past at Rangers and Dundee.
