Leeds monitor as Birmingham set to make star player available for transfer

According to Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Birmingham City goalkeeper David Stockdale is to be made available for transfer. Stockdale has spent the past season at St Andrews after his shock move from Brighton & Hove Albion, but Garry Monk is seemingly happy for him to move on.

Hay covers Leeds United, and Stockdale was a transfer target of the Elland Road club prior to linking up with Birmingham, then managed by Harry Redknapp. It remains to be seen if such a move will materialise again, unless Paul Heckingbottom wishes to go into the new season with Bailey Peacock-Farrell as their first choice stopper.

32-year-old Stockdale impressed as a youngster playing for York City, which earned him a big move to Fulham in 2008 for £600,000. He spent six years at Craven Cottage, making just shy of 40 league appearances. He would have several loan moves away from the London club, including to the likes of Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Hull City.

It was his time at Brighton where he began to make a name for himself again, and helped them win promotion into the Premier League, although he wouldn’t make the jump into the top flight with the Seagulls, instead joining Birmingham. However, after a year, it looks like he may be set to move on again. Could Leeds United make their move again?

It would still be a big shock if Monk did indeed allow Stockdale to move on. That is unless the player himself has signalled a desire to move on and get a fresh challenge elsewhere. There is Tomasz Kuszczak in reserve at St Andrews, who is a more than able replacement that could slot into the side without weakening them in this department.
