Ex-QPR and Leeds United goalkeeper released by Huddersfield Town

Robert Green has been released by Huddersfield Town, according to Sky Sports.

The 38-year-old goalkeeper will now become a free agent next month after spending a season in the Premier League as a back-up goalkeeper for the Terriers.

Green played every game for Leeds United in the 2016/17 season under Garry Monk and impressed for the Whites. He had signed a contract extension at Elland Road in March 2017 but had his contract mutually terminated to force through a move to Huddersfield.

Green, who has 12 caps for England, did not play a game for Huddersfield this season but is now an option for Football League clubs needing a new goalkeeper this summer in preparation for next season.

He is vastly experienced and has played 658 games in his career to date. He started his career at Norwich City and played 241 games for the Canaries. He was snapped up by West Ham United in 2007 and played for them in their Championship promotion campaign of 2011/12.

Green then signed for QPR in the summer of 2012 and was promoted from the Championship twice during his time at Loftus Road. The first time was under Neil Warnock in 2014 and the second was under Harry Redknapp in the Play-Offs in 2015.

Robert Green is an option for many clubs out there and would be a shrewd signing for a club wanting to bolster their goalkeeping options for next season.
