Oxford United are in the hunt for a new central midfielder after selling Ryan Ledson to Preston North End. Here are five players they could sign to replace him-

Aaron Tshibola, Aston Villa- Villa paid £5 million to sign the 23-year-old from Reading in 2016 but he has struggled to make an impact. They have loaned him out to Nottingham Forest, MK Dons and Kilmarnock since his move. He could be sold in the summer and could get his career back on track at Oxford.

Michael Doughty, Peterborough United- He has been transfer listed by the Posh and would be a decent signing for Oxford. He has experience of playing in League One and played 38 games this season. However, there will be other interest in him.

Matthew Grimes, Swansea City- He has spent this season on loan at Northampton Town from Swansea City. Following the Swans’ relegation from the Premier League, they may offload Grimes on a permanent basis to help balance the books and he would be ideal for Oxford.

Ben Gladwin, Blackburn Rovers- He may leave Blackburn this summer for more regular game time and is an option for Oxford. He has previously played for Swindon Town and QPR and would offer Oxford more options in midfield.

Cameron McGeehan, Barnsley- The former Norwich City and Luton Town midfielder has spent the latter part of this season on loan at Scunthorpe United from Barnsley. He is another who would be perfect to fill the gap left by Ledson’s departure as he is proven at League One level.
