Sheffield United boss set to agree new deal

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is expected to sign a new deal at the club in the coming days, despite him being odds on to become the new manager at recently relegated Sunderland.

Sunderland have just suffered back to back relegations, meaning they will play in Sky Bet League One next season, and the Sheffield United boss had been heavily linked with a move to the North East in recent weeks.

However, Sky Sports have reported that both he and his assistant are set to sit down at Bramall Lane in the coming days to work out a new deal.

His future at the Blades had been in doubt due to the ongoing uncertainty about the future of the Yorkshire club, but Wilder and his backroom staff are all expected to commit to a third year at the club, at the very least.

This new deal is likely to warn off any advances from Sunderland, as they search for a manager to replace Chris Coleman following his sacking towards the back end of last season.

The news that Chris Wilder will be staying at the club will be music to the ears of many Sheffield United fans, who have enjoyed his tenure at the club so far.

His first season in charge saw them crowned Sky Bet League One champions, and earn promotion back to the second tier.

Their return to the Sky Bet Championship was a successful one, which saw them finish 10th, just six points outside the illustrious top six.
