Reading sign Barnsley defender

Reading have signed Barnsley right back Andy Yiadom on a deal which sees the defender join the Royals until 2020.

It is the Royals first bit of business in the transfer window, and he becomes manager Paul Clement’s first signing at the Madejski Stadium.

Clement admits that he tracked him whilst he was at Swansea, and it is delighted to finally get his man.

The 26 year old will officially become a Reading player when his contract at Barnsley expires on the 1st of July.

The Ghanaian international has made 64 appearances for the Reds since joining from Barnet in 2016, but has failed to find the net for the Yorkshire club.

Reading were involved in a relegation battle which went down to the final day, but Clement is aiming to build a side that can challenge at the top end of the table.

Speaking to the club website, the manager said “I’m very happy that Andy is joining Reading as my first signing.  He is someone that I’ve known for a while, and whose progress I was tracking when I was at Swansea.

“Andy comes here with valuable experience of the Championship – he’s a good age at 26, and he has the right desires and ambitions which will help us to move forward with this club.”

Yiadom captained the Reds on a few occasions, showing his leadership abilities which all managers crave.

The Royals battled hard for Yiadom’s signature and will be hoping that he can make a difference and help turn the clubs fortunes around.
