Top 50 Players of the EFL – 19th: Diogo Jota (Wolves)

Wolves midfielder Diogo Jota has been voted by you as the 19th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Jota is the 19th best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

A lot of talented players moved to Wolves last summer and Jota was one of the ones that excited the most. He moved on loan from Atletico Madrid following a successful stint with FC Porto. It was another stunning move which many couldn’t believe actually happened but because of his reputation, there was a lot of pressure on Jota’s shoulders as he had to be brilliant or be deemed a flop.

Luckily he was brilliant and the word flop was banished from Molineux.  Whether he was playing as an attacking midfielder or as a forward, Jota was having an impact and was one of the many Wolves players that other teams had to come up with a specific counter-plan for. During the season he would make 46 appearances, scoring 17 goals and making five more. This would be an impressive total for an out and out striker, never mind someone who was usually playing behind them.

Jota’s loan deal with Wolves was made permanent in the January transfer window so he will stay in the Black Country and help in their bid to make an impact in the Premier League.
