Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg has been voted by you as the 23rd best player in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Grigg is the 23rd best player in the Football League. This is the first time he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.
The most famous thing about Grigg is the chant. You know, Will Grigg’s On Fire, Your Defence is Terried, Na Na Na Na and so on. The reason they made that chant was because of his incredible form in 2016 which helped the Latics to quickly return to the Sky Bet Championship. Unfortunately last season Grigg was more of an ember than he was on fire but this season saw him return to his best and saw those chants return to the terraces of the DW Stadium.
When Grigg had the ball anywhere near the opposition’s box, he was a threat and someone the defence had to watch keenly. Even though they did exactly that Grigg was still devastating at times which is why he scored 19 goals in 45 appearances. This made him the third highest scorer in Sky Bet League One, behind Portsmouth’s Brett Pitman and Peterborough United’s Jack Marriott. That includes the games against MK Dons and Oxford United who he scored hat tricks against.
Grigg will get another chance to prove himself in the Championship following Wigan’s promotion this season.
