Aston Villa boss wants deal for veteran defender

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that he is looking to negotiate a new contract to keep veteran defender Alan Hutton at Villa Park.

Hutton’s contract expires at the end of this season, and Bruce is determined to sign him down to a new deal, whether the Midlands club earn promotion back to the Premier League or not.

According to the Express and Star, Steve Bruce is a huge fan of Alan Hutton, who has been extremely impressive in recent weeks.

As quoted by the media outlet, the Villa boss said: “I’ve continued to say this about Alan Hutton. He is everything I enjoy about a player.”

“He goes home, is one of the first in, and you can see his fitness levels at 33 are quite remarkable and he has been terrific since I’ve been here. If I get my way there will certainly be a contract offered to him.”

Aston Villa are currently preparing for tonight’s huge game at home to Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi Final second Leg. Villa won the first leg 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium thanks to Mile Jedinak’s early header, giving them a massive advantage ahead of the second leg at Villa Park.

As long as Aston Villa avoid defeat, Steve Bruce will be taking his side to Wembley for the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off final, where they will play Fulham.

The Cottagers beat Derby County 2-0 last night (May 14) to book their place in the final, having narrowly missed out on automatic promotion on the last day of the season.
