WBA leave Thorne at home as Rams close in

West Brom have confirmed on their official website this morning that George Thorne will not travel with the squad to the USA for their pre-season tour.

Thorne has been subject of two failed bids from Derby County, with whom the midfielder spent much of last season on loan.

Speculation around Thorne’s potential transfer has lingered for many weeks, but today’s announcement suggests a deal may be close.

Baggies boss Alan Irvine said:

“The club are in talks with Derby about George and while those negotiations continue it makes sense for him to remain at home.
“However, if no agreement is reached, George will be flown out to join the rest of the group in the US.”
Rams fans will be hopeful a deal can be concluded in the next few days.
