Shrewsbury Town beat Charlton Athletic 1-0 yesterday, to secure a 2-0 aggregate win in the Sky Bet League One Play-Offs and progress through to Wembley, where they will meet either Scunthorpe United or Rotherham United.
It was a cagey affair, with Carlton Morris’ second half goal sealing the tie and resigning Charlton to another season in the third tier of English football.
They had their chances, and also saw two appeals for penalties turned down, but few people can argue that Shrewsbury Town deserved the win over the two legs.
That does not make it any easier to take for Charlton Athletic fans, and they were quick to take to Twitter after last night’s defeat.
Here is a look at what some of them had to say:
This save from Ben Amos counted for very little, but it was still a world class save.
It isn’t quite Leeds United, Stoke City or Nottingham Forest away, but games like this will have to do for Charlton Athletic next season.
Accrington Stanley …Burton Albion …Wycombe…all fun #cafc days out and new territory

This fan thinks that Lee Bowyer has done a good job, but would not keep him at the club on a permanent basis.
Although Bowyer has done a good job, i’d probably look elsewhere, someone that is proven at this level, and the level above. Its important this takeover happens swiftly, Muir attended both games, more than Roland did his entire tenure, and he doesn’t even own the club yet. #cafc

I think the majority of Charlton fans are feeling deflated this morning, but it is important to be optimistic and look ahead to the new season.
Woke up this morning feeling deflated! Need some big changes this summer and we go again. Hopefully we will have a solid season next year and get automatic promotion! Up the reds! #cafc

It’s fair to say that Charlton fans do not want Shrewsbury Town to win at Wembley.
