Top 50 Players of the EFL – 37th: Helder Costa (Wolves)

Wolves winger Helder Costa has been voted by you as the 37th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Costa is the 37th best player in the Football League. He was moved down 22 places from last year when he finished in 15th place.

Last year Costa was probably Wolves’ best player. Even though it was an underwhelming year for the club as they looked closer to relegation than promotion, he was a star player and showed that a Wolves side with a bit more quality could end up being a real threat in this league. Well last summer Wolves added plenty of new top quality players and showed that they were more than a threat with Costa playing a big part in it.

While Costa couldn’t claim to be the star of the show anymore, you can’t really when the likes of Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves are playing for you, he was still a key member of the squad who most other teams in the Championship would build a team around. In his 39 appearances for the club, he scored five times and had six assists. And he would steal the headlines for himself in games against Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Preston North End.

Next season Costa will get a chance to test himself against Premier League defences after Wolves were promoted.
