Derby County made favourites to sign Leeds United target

Derby County are the bookies’ favourites to sign Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie this summer, despite several reports linking him with a move to Leeds United.

The 21-year-old striker was on brilliant form towards the back-end of the 2017/18 campaign whilst on loan at Barnsley, scoring nine goals in just 17 games for the Tykes.

It was not enough to keep Barnsley in the Sky Bet Championship, and after suffering relegation to the third tier, any thoughts of them making the deal a permanent one have vanished.

Leeds United had shown a lot of interest in signing McBurnie, but it is Derby County who Bet Victor think will buy him this season.

The Rams are given odds of 6/1, with Leeds United, Aston Villa and Fulham all behind at 8/1.

McBurnie’s future will depend heavily on what happens in the coming weeks, with the promotion picture not settled in the Sky Bet Championship.

Derby County, Fulham and Aston Villa are all taking part in the end of season Play-Offs, whilst Swansea City are not yet mathematically relegated from the top flight, although they do need a nine goal turn around on the final day of the season to remain a Premier League side.

If the Swans are relegated, it is quite likely that they would want to keep hold of Oli McBurnie, who has proven that he has what it takes to succeed in the second tier.

McBurnie, who was actually born in Leeds, is a Scotland international, after making his debut in March of this year.
