Bristol City and Wigan Athletic battling it out for Derry City star

Bristol City and Wigan Athletic are both interested in signing Derry City midfielder Aaron McEneff, according to the Irish Mirror.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Derry City in the League of Ireland Premier Division and is attracting attention from England.

Bristol City are said to be keen on signing him this summer. Lee Johnson is looking for potential signings in preparation for next season as he looks to get the Robins fighting for the Play-Offs again.

Wigan Athletic are another side who are showing an interest in the midfielder. The Latics will be playing in the Championship next season after they won the League One title in this campaign after a great season under Paul Cook. The North-West side see McEneff as an ideal player to help bolster their midfield options.

McEneff was born in Belfast and played youth football with Institute Fc and had a trial with Kilmarnock before he was snapped up by Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. He was released by Spurs in 2015 and had trials at Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest before he returned to Ireland to sign for Derry City in July 2015.

He has since been one of the best players in the League of Ireland Premier Division and has scored 23 goals in the 80 games he has played for them since from midfield. He has also represented Northern Ireland at U17, U19 and U21 level.

Aaron McEneff is a name to watch out for in the future and he could be playing the Championship next season.
