Birmingham City target joins Scottish Premier League champions

Birmingham City have missed out on target Scott Bain, after the goalkeeper opted to sign for Scottish Premier League champions Celtic instead, as confirmed by the Scottish side’s official website.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper had been a long term target of the Blues, who escaped relegation on the final day with a 3-1 victory over promotion chasing Fulham, but it seems they will have to look elsewhere after the Scottish shot stopper agreed a deal to remain in Glasgow.

Bain had spent the second half of the season on loan at the club, helping them to their seventh successive Scottish Premier League title. He made six appearances for the club in his time there, and obviously did a good enough job to prompt Brendan Rodgers to sign him on a permanent basis.

Scott Bain’s contract at former club Dundee expires following the conclusion of the 2017/18 season, meaning that Celtic have picked him up on a free, signing him to a four year contract.

Speaking to the club’s website about the move, Bain was thrilled to finally get it done.

He said: “I’m delighted. It’s more than I obviously expected when I first came in. I’m over the moon.  I don’t think it could have gone any better. It’s funny, there’s a lot of little things that went my way to get to Celtic on loan and then to play the game against Rangers, which sent me on my way to this four-year-deal. It’s been great and I’ve loved every minute of it.”

“I’ve settled in well with all the boys in the changing room and they’ve made it really easy for me. It’s a great changing room to be in and a great club to be at. When you’re not involved you know Celtic’s a big club but it’s not until you’re here that you fully realise the magnitude of it all and how many people have your eye on you.”
