Wolves set to battle with Atletico Madrid and Man City for French wonderkid

Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing 16-year-old defender Rayan Ait-Nouri, but face competition from European powerhouses to secure his signature.

French newspaper L’Equipe report that AS Monaco, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City are all keen to sign the youngster, who is seen as one of the next big things in his native France.

However, newly promoted Wolves are also looking to bring him in, and they may hold an advantage over the rest of the interested clubs.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is a client of Jorge Mendes, and the Birmingham Mail reports that the Black Country club could use their relationship with Mendes as a way to tempt the youngster into the club.

Ait-Nouri is currently on the books of French club Angers, and although he is yet to feature in their first team, he has been a member of the squad in a number of Ligue 1 games.

He also received a call-up to the France U18 squad in recent weeks, showing his capabilities.

At such a young age, it is unlikely that he would walk straight into the starting XI of a big team, and instead a loan deal away might be the best option.

The Birmingham Mail say that whilst AS Monaco are interested in signing him, the 2016/17 Champions League semi-finalists would loan him back to Angers for the upcoming season.

Wolves have been linked with a number of players since they waltzed to the Sky Bet Championship title, including a couple of left sided defender, which is what Ait-Nouri is.

Whilst Barry Douglas is expected to be Nuno Santo’s first choice next season, it appears he is interested in bringing in some competition for the Scottish full-back.
