Huddersfield Town deal Leeds United transfer blow

Huddersfield Town’s 1-1 draw at the home of 2016/17 Premier League champions Chelsea guaranteed their top flight survival, meaning they will play in the Premier League for a second season next campaign.

This is bad news for Leeds United, not just because they have to watch their Yorkshire rivals celebrate, but because it has pretty much condemned Swansea City to relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds United have been heavily linked with a move for Swansea City defender Kyle Bartley, but the chances of them signing the former Arsenal and Rangers central defender have decreased massively as Swansea prepare for life back in the second tier.

They are not officially down, but they need a nine goal swing in their favour on the final day to retain their Premier League status.

The Welsh side are unlikely to want to sell Bartley to a club in the same league as them, and they might even see him as a key member of their squad.

It is looking increasingly likely that their central defender Alfie Mawson will leave the club this summer, and Kyle Bartley could be the man to replace him.

Bartley has experience in the second tier, and he enjoyed a loan spell at Leeds United during the 2016/17, when the Whites only narrowly missed out on the Play-Offs.

Leeds United are looking to improve their squad following a disappointing campaign last time round, and they have had their eyes set on Bartley ever since he left the club last summer.
