Sheffield Wednesday star striker signs new deal

Sheffield Wednesday’s Atdhe Nuhiu has signed a new two-year contract with the club as confirmed by the official website.

Nuhiu started the season on the bench, if he even made it into the matchday squad at all. There was even some hints from him that he may leave at the end of the season and his contract should things not change. But he was one of the players who prospered after the departure of Carlos Carvalhal and the appointment of Jos Luhukay as the new manager.

Getting a chance to feature in the first team after a raft of injuries, Nuhiu took his opportunity by constantly being one of the best players on the pitch. He would end up scoring 14 goals in 38 appearances, notably scoring a hat trick against Norwich City on the final day of the season. This restored him as one of the club’s star players in the eyes of his fans. But with his contract set to expire in the summer, there was the fear he might decide to walk.

But now Nuhiu will be staying at Hillsborough after penning a deal that will keep him there until 2020. Many fans would have been disappointed to see him leave even if he hadn’t broken back into the first team in the second half of the season has he has contributed a lot since joining from Eskisehirspor back in 2013. But the fact he hit such a rich vein of form in the last few months has made him a prized commodity and this contract signing a big deal for the club.
