Khazri, French top flight clubs chasing Sunderland man

French top flight clubs chasing Sunderland man

A number of Ligue 1 clubs are interested in signing forgotten Sunderland midfielder man Wahbi Khazri according to the Mirror.

The Tunisian international has spent the season on loan at top flight sides Rennes, and many Sunderland fans may even have forgotten that he was on the books at the club.

But he is still technically a Sunderland player, and with the Black Cats relegated to Sky Bet League One, it is almost certain that he will leave the club this summer.

The fee that he is expected to go for is in the region of £6 million, which will greatly benefit Sunderland as they prepare for life in the third tier of English football.

French footballing giants Lyon and Marseille are both reported to be interested in the Tunisian midfielder after a successful loan spell in France.

Both clubs have played in the Europa League this season, and Marseille have even reached the final, where they will play Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

Khazri’s spell at Rennes was a huge success. In 18 games, he scored an impressive nine goals. This proves his ability to do it in the top flight of the French league, and that is likely what is appealing to Lyon and Marseille.

Wahbi Khazri has plenty of history in France. He began his career with Bastia, playing over 150 times for the second tier club.

He then made the move to Bordeaux, where he spent two years before completing his move to England, joining Sunderland for an undisclosed fee in 2016.
