James Maddison, Transfer setback for Liverpool after Norwich star’s injury

Transfer setback for Liverpool after Norwich star’s injury

Premier League side Liverpool have received a setback in their bid to sign Norwich City star James Maddison, after it was confirmed by the club that the 21-year-old would be out for up to two months with a knee injury.

The former Coventry City man went off after just 11 minutes of the Canaries final game of the Sky Bet Championship season after twisting his knee in the match with Sheffield Wednesday.

Maddison had been expected to leave the club in the coming weeks, with interest from Premier League giants Liverpool hotting up.

The Champions League finalists have been linked with the England Under 21 international for a number of months now, but it seems they will have to wait that extra bit longer to bring him in following this latest revelation.

The good news is that despite leaving Hillsborough on crutches, a scan on his knee has revealed that James Maddison does not require surgery.

The talented midfielder has had an excellent season for the East Anglian club, and that earned him a place in the PFA Sky Bet Championship team of the year.

Speaking with ITV Anglia about Maddison’s injury, Norwich City’s Sporting Director Stuart Webber said: “James has had an outstanding season, with 15 goals and eight assists to his name. To get this injury in our very last game is really bad luck for him, but he’s a positive, dedicated young professional and he will be working hard with everybody’s support to get back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

£On a positive note the injury is not as bad as we had first feared it might be and thankfully no operation is needed. All being well, James will be fighting fit and ready to come back early in our pre-season schedule.”
