Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 9th: Tony Pulis (Middlesbrough)

Middlesbrough head coach Tony Pulis has been voted by you as the 9th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Pulis is the 9th best manager in the Football League. This is the first time that Pulis has been on the Top 20 Managers countdown.
There was a lot of pressure on Pulis when he became the head coach of Middlesbrough. He was taking over from Garry Monk who had been sacked after beating Sheffield Wednesday, which was an odd one, and his style of football was very different from what fans on Riverside had gotten used to over the last few years. But sometimes you need a bit of grit and Pulis provided exactly that.
While some of the inconsistent form around the turn of the year meant that Middlesbrough were never going to get automatically promoted, they did face off a tough challenge from the likes of Preston North End and Millwall to finish in the top six. Pulis added an edge to the team which meant they often won games through a bit of battle rather than the smooth football which often cost them earlier in the season.
Middlesbrough’s season is not over yet after they qualified for the play-offs. They will be facing Aston Villa and will hope to beat them to progress to the final and a chance of promotion.
