League One promotion specialist emerges as favourite for Barnsley job

Simon Grayson is the new 9/4 favourite for the Barnsley job on SkyBet.

The Tykes are in the hunt for a new manager after Jose Morias left them following their relegation to League One on Sunday.

Simon Grayson, who left Bradford City yesterday, has emerged as the new favourite for the Oakwell job. He is followed by Bobby Hassell (4/1) and former Sunderland, Wolves and Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy (4/1).

Grayson has not had the best of seasons and will be looking to get his career back on track. He left Preston North End last summer to take charge of Sunderland but was sacked in November after a poor start to the campaign and was replaced by Chris Coleman. He then took over at Bradford City in February on a short-term deal and has left at the end of it.

He is a League One promotion specialist and has won promotion from the third tier on four occasions. This may be why Barnsley are keen on him as they will be looking to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Grayson has been promoted from League One with Blackpool, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town and Preston North End. He is a vastly experienced manager and would be a good appointment by Barnsley as he understands the league.

Changes need to be made at the Tykes next season to ensure they can get promoted. Appointing Simon Grayson would certainly be a step in the right direction.
