Former Crystal Palace and Leeds United midfielder David Hopkin is the second favourite to be appointed as the next manager of Sky Bet League Two club Carlisle United according to the latest odds from English Football League sponsors Sky Bet.
The 47-year-old has impressed in his current role as manager of Scottish Championship promotion chasers Livingston.
Hopkins has worked a minor miracle in transforming Livi into serious promotion candidates and the former midfielder’s next career move could be into a bigger job with a Scottish club or management in the English Football League.
According to English Football League sponsors Sky Bet, Hopkin is the second favourite for the job at Carlisle United and he is priced at just 2/1 to move to Brunton Park. The Cumbrians are currently searching for a new manager for next season with outgoing boss Keith Curle having decided to move on after more than three-and-a-half years in the job.
Hopkin spent the whole of his playing career in England other than two spells at Greenock Morton at the start and end of his playing days. After enjoying time at Chelsea, Hopkin made his name at Crystal Palace where his goal won the club promotion to the top flight via the play-offs in 1996/1997. A move to Leeds United followed where he spent three years and played his part in the club’s growth. The former midfielder later moved on to Bradford City before spending a further spell in South London at Crystal Palace.
Livingston could yet reach the Scottish Premiership with Hopkin this season but should they fail to win promotion, the club could find it hard to retain the services of their manager.
