Ipswich academy graduate to depart the Tractor Boys

Ipswich Town midfielder Luke Hyam has announced that he will leave Town once his contract expires in the summer.

He has been at the club since he was 11 years old, and says he will always carry great memories from his time with his boyhood club.

The centre midfielder came through the ranks at Portman Road and made his debut for the club when he was just 18 years old.

He made 114 appearances for Town, scoring 3 goals in an 8 year span.

He also spent five games on loan at Rotherham in 2015 in order to try and regain match fitness after an injury.

Speaking to IFollow Ipswich, Hyam said “It’s a bit surreal at the moment,

“I’ve been to the training ground and the club to say goodbye to the staff. It’s not really sinking in at the moment.

“I’ve been here since the age of 11 and the club has been a big part of my life and I have so many great memories.”

Over his 8 years at Portman Road, Hyam revealed that he had shared long lasting memories at the club.

“My debut as an 18-year-old at Middlesbrough, getting thrown in there. The Norwich games, captaining the team at Portsmouth was a real highlight for me.” He said.

“I’m a Town fan and to play for the club that you support is a dream for any player.”

Despite his contract not being renewed for Town, the tenacious midfielder won’t be short of offers during the summer window.

“It might be the right thing for me as well, with the age that I’m at now, to have a new challenge.

“Hopefully I can get something sorted as soon as possible. I’ve missed a lot of football because of my injuries but to me the most important thing now is to be playing games week in, week out.”
