Spanish giants join Wolves in pursuit of Premier League midfielder

Champions League quarter finalists Sevilla have shown in interest in signing Stoke City and Wales midfielder Joe Allen, according to a report from the Sun.

The former Liverpool man suffered relegation with the Potters at the weekend, as a 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace condemned Stoke to the Sky Bet Championship for the first time in 10 years.

And whilst this is horrific news for Stoke City fans, a number of clubs were left celebrating, as it increased the likelihood of them signing their transfer targets.

Wolves are one of the clubs interested in some of Stoke City’s players, with Jack Butland believed to be their number one target, but they are also looking to strengthen up their midfield ahead of their return to the Premier League.

One player who they feel will strengthen their side is Stoke’s midfielder Joe Allen, but the latest reports indicate that they face a lot of competition for the Wales international.

Spanish giants Sevilla are the latest club to show an interest in Allen, with Premier League sides West Ham United, Newcastle United and Swansea City also said to be interested.

The 28-year-old midfielder started his career at Swansea City after coming through their youth set-up. He played over 100 times for the Welsh club, before following former boss Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool in 2012. He played 91 times for the Premier League giants, but soon fell out of favour once Rodgers left the club, and was sold to Stoke City for a fee of £13 million.

Reports are suggesting that the Potters would be willing to accept £20 million for Joe Allen.
