Preston North End head coach Alex Neil has been voted by you as the 13th best manager in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Neil is the 13th best manager in the Football League. This is his first time on the Top 20 Managers of the EFL list.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Preston wouldn’t do that much this season. They lost head coach Simon Grayson after he decided to become the new Sunderland manager, which went well, and when the replacement was announced to be Neil, many were underwhelmed. After all, Neil’s spell at Norwich City had left a lot to be desired and there were concerns that Preston had been so good because of Grayson.
However Neil showed how capable a manager he is by making sure Preston were in the thick of it throughout the season. While they were unable to finish in the top six, Preston were good enough to make sure that was a possibility until the last few games of the season. Considering how much smaller their budget was compared to their rivals, that was a real achievement and something to be proud of.
Next time Nil will be hoping to make sure his Preston side take the next step and finish in the top six so that they have a chance of getting promoted to the Premier League.
