Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 17th: Derek Adams (Plymouth Argyle)

Plymouth Argyle head coach Derek Adams has been voted by you as the 17th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Adams is the 17th best manager in the Football League. This is his first time on the Top 20 Managers of the EFL list.

When you get promoted to a new league, it is expected that you consolidate your position in that division and quite often fight for your life as you try to stop going right back down again. It is always impressive when a new team in a division go straight for the top but that is what the Pilgrims did under Adams this season.

Throughout the season, Plymouth have made playing in a new division look easy by challenging for promotion. Unfortunately for them the season ended disappointingly as they missed out on the play-offs by three points with Charlton Athletic pipping them to that all important sixth place. But for Plymouth to look like they could get promoted just a year after getting promoted into this league is an impressive statement by them.

With no play-off game to look forward to, Adams can now concentrate on getting his team ready for next season so they can make sure that they do end up in the top six next time. If he doesn’t, there may be some disappointed fans after the high of this season.
